Ana Quintero

Biography:

Ana Victoria Quintero received her B.S. in chemistry from Our Lady of the Lake University in 2018. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry at Baylor University. She enjoys photography and traveling, discovering new musical artists, watching shows, and attending sporting and musical events.

Current Area:

Ana’s current project is focused on using electrospray ionization (ESI) hydrogen/deuterium exchange-mass spectrometry (HDX-MS) to develop a methodology to structurally characterize carbohydrate isomers. Ana explores various methods to monitor the dynamics of carbohydrates by altering the spray-solvent conductivity of carbohydrate standards and adjusting the size of glass capillaries to control the initial droplet sizes produced during ESI. The time for HDX is altered when changing the initial size of ESI droplets, resulting in different magnitudes of HDX. Ana currently utilizes a home-built open source to determine and justify the repeatability of performing HDX-MS experiments with different-sized glass capillaries.
